Hernandez was born and raised in Miami, Florida by his mother, Isabeland his stepfather. His mother and father divorced shortly after immigrating to America, but he Saturday night live The star has remained close with both of them, as well as her stepfather.

“My dad had been to a few tournaments and he’d seen me play really well. And I think he always had that in the back of his mind, like, ‘You’re really good. I have seen you excellent. I don’t think you should give that up for something you’re not that good at yet.” But my mom and stepdad said, “If you want to do this, we’re here. Do it.”

Marcello Hernández’s mother and stepfather are from Cuba, while his father is from the Dominican Republic. The comedian revealed to “Chair Expert” that his mother fled Cuba when he was 12 and briefly moved to Spain and the Dominican Republic before settling in America.

“It doesn’t work,” he said. “They came to America with the same idea, just a little different. My mother came here and said, ‘Oh my God, look at all these opportunities.’ And then my father came here and said, ‘Oh, my God, look at all these opportunities. This is not a place to get married, this is the land of opportunity.'”

“My mother, as a person, is really an example,” Hernandez told “Armchair Expert.” “Someone who’s moral, who takes care of his family, who’s kind to people, who’s respectful, who gives back his time. He’s just a beautiful human being.”
Hernandez continued: “And he went through a lot of very dark things. And that communicated that to me quite a bit… And when you grow up like that and then something good happens to you and you feel like you’ve made it, the first thing that came to my mind all the time, whenever I’m doing an interview or someone asks me, all I can do is believe that.”

Marcello Hernandez often incorporates jokes about his mother and father into his stand-up routines as well as Saturday Night Live sketches. For example, Isabel served as the inspiration for his viral sketch “Protective Mom” with Pedro Pascal in 2023. In the sketch, Hernandez played a man who introduces his new girlfriend (Chloe Fineman) to his Latina mother (Pascal).
