Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have his first face-to-face meeting with the Manchester United hierarchy on Saturday about the position of interim head coach.
Ski Sports News understands another candidate for the role, Michael Carrick, who has already met with the club’s management this week to discuss the role.
United are keen to make an appointment for the rest of the season, having made the decision to sign on Monday in time for Ruben Amorim’s 14-month reign.
Ruud van Nistelrooy and current permanent manager Darren Fletcher are being considered for the job, but both Solskjaer and Carrick remain at the forefront of United’s plans.
However, the club remain patient about the process, with any meeting now looking unlikely ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Brighton.
Interim Manchester United boss Fletcher has focused on the present rather than the future
Fletcher said on Friday he had no further discussions about his future at Manchester United as the former midfielder prepares for his second game in the interim against Brighton.
United produced a lively performance in Fletcher’s first match but were ultimately frustrated in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at struggling Burnley, with chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox watching from the stands.
The pair have been the 41-year-old’s only point of contact in the club’s management since taking the reins on an interim basis as the hierarchy believe he is the best man to lead the side forward.
Asked if there was any update on his future and whether he had spoken to ambitious United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Fletcher said: “I haven’t, no.
“The process here works by talking to Omar and Jason. For me, I focused on the job at hand, preparing the team for these two games. There was no thinking or talking about my future.
“Honestly, the people in Jason and Omar have given me full responsibility to take control of these two games, make my own decisions, lead the team, lead the team, prepare the team, and that’s what I’ve been doing.
“There was no discussion with anyone except those two people in higher positions in the club.”
