A man dressed in Patrick Mahomes wearing a Kermit the Frog mask was knocked out by someone dressed as Rocky Balboa, while another man holding a giant cannoli used it to attack someone dressed as the Kansas City Chiefs coach. Andy Reid.
In other words, it was just another year in Philadelphia’s Mummers Parade.
Nearly a year after the Philadelphia Eagles blew out the 30-year-old Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, Eagles fans rubbed salt in the wound. with a dramatic scene in the middle of the city’s annual New Year’s Eve parade. It was only logical that Rocky, the most famous fictional athlete in town, would be the one to deliver the decisive blow.
Held since 1901, the Philadelphia Mummers Parade is the longest continuously running folk parade in the United States. It has participants in elaborate costumes, performing skits or routines for the amused spectators.
The Kermit mask is a reference to a meme popularized by fans based on Muhammad’s voice sounding like the popular muppet. The meme has cropped up before in less indulgent settings, such as in 2025 when Patrick’s wife, Brittany Mahomesshared a photo of a Kermit the Frog doll wearing Patrick’s jersey hanging from a pole in Buffalo after the Chiefs defeated the Bills in the AFC Championship Game.

“Remember this Buffalo? Absolutely disgusting,” she wrote of the photo via Instagram. “So when you go home tonight, I pray that you will be better people.”
The previous year, the safety of the Las Vegas Raiders Trey Taylorwas caught on video holding a Kermit doll and, mimicking Patrick’s voice, saying, “I’m a dog.”
Patrick removed the video at the time and told reporters that he didn’t need to use that video as motivation.
“Things like this happen. It will be dealt with when it is dealt with,” he said. “Everybody lets me play, I mean they know what I’m like. They don’t have to send me anything to keep me motivated.”
Eagles fans had extra reason to approach the 2026 parade with some pep in their step. Philadelphia is 11-5, the NFC East champion, and will enter the playoffs with a real chance to win back-to-back championships.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, are shockingly out of playoff contention with a 6-10 record. Muhammad suffered a season-ending ACL injury on Dec. 14 and hopes to return for the start of the 2026 season.
“I don’t know why this had to happen,” Mahomes wrote via X on the day of his injury. “And not gonna lie, it hurts. But all we can do now is (trust) God and attack each day again and again. Thank you, kingdom of bosses, for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out to me and sent prayers. I will come back stronger than ever.”
Coach Andy Reid, 67, told the media the next day that Mahomes had already had surgery and was beginning his rehabilitation.
“He’ll attack it, just like he does everything else,” he said. “There’s been some pretty good quarterbacks that have had the same injury, and they’ve done pretty well after coming back. He’s going to get after it, and he’s got good people here to rehabilitate him. He’s going to be on top of that.”
