A man in Oxfordshire, England, was filmed crying when he was arrested for killing his ex-girlfriend, but his tears had nothing to do with his alleged crime. Instead, he was bewildered by the realization that he will now miss the imminent launch of the new one Grand Theft Auto video game
The Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit announced a press release on Friday, February 6, which Robert Riches had been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years and one month for the murder of his girlfriend in May 2025, Rachael Vaughan.
The press release noted that “Richens pleaded guilty to one count of murder at an earlier hearing on December 12, 2025” at Oxford Crown Court.
Richens was arrested in May 2025 in connection with Vaughan’s death. At the time, body camera footage obtained by The Independent showed Richens in tears as she said, “I’m going to miss you GTA.”

“What GTA? What are you talking about, Robert? an officer was heard asking before Richens revealed he was talking about the delay often Grand Theft Auto VI. The new video game is scheduled to be released on November 19.
The officer then told Richens that it was “ages” until the video game would be released. However, Richens predicted he would receive a long sentence saying, “I’m going to get life.”
“Robert Richens on May 30, 2025 said the following: “I accidentally killed her. At least I admitted it. I will miss it. GTAI’m going to get my life,’” the officer then said in the video, commemorating the statement.
Richens continued to cry as she said, “I can’t get it out of my head.” He then added, “I could have gone for a run.”
Richens called authorities on May 30, 2025 at 6:26 a.m. to report that he had killed someone, according to the release.
“You’re not going to believe this, and I think I killed someone by accident; she’s not moving,” Richens told the operator, according to the BBC. “I’m honest because I’m ashamed of what I’ve done, I didn’t mean to kill that person.”
During the trial, prosecutor Neil Moore she said Richens punched and kicked Vaughan when he attacked her and “used an instrument to hit her,” she said. Oxford Mail. “There were 64 sites of blunt force trauma,” the prosecutor added.
Moore went on to say that Richens spent five hours at Vaughan’s home after her killing to clean her body, change her clothes and clean the residence.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Mayissued a statement after Richens’ sentencing. “My thoughts remain with Rachael Vaughan’s family and all who loved her as they continue to deal with an unimaginable loss,” he said, according to the news release.
“Rachael was taken from the very place where she should have felt safest: her home,” May continued. “Robert Richens’ actions were heartless. He left Rachael alone in her home, made no attempt to help her or seek medical attention and only contacted the police when he had nowhere else to turn.”
He concluded: “Today’s sentence means that Richens will now face the consequences of his ruthless actions.”
