Lily Allen is sending a message to his fans after dropping his album, West End Girl
“Thanks for all the love West End Girl 🤍,” Allen, 40, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, October 26, alongside a series of photographs where the singer celebrates the album.
Allen confirmed to Vogue on Monday, October 20 that West End Girl is “inspired by what happened in the relationship” with her estranged husband, David Harbour. “That doesn’t mean it’s all gospel,” he added. (The couple separated in 2024 after four years of marriage.)
From the premiere of West End Girl —his first album in seven years— Allen has detailed his lyrical inspiration.
“Intimacy is inherently messy. There are usually agreed-upon boundaries in relationships, but whether or not those boundaries are being met is suddenly becoming a gray area,” Allen said. The Times of London on a Saturday, October 25, profile. “Dating apps make people disposable and that leads to the idea that if you’re not happy, there’s a lot more to choose from in your pocket.”

“I know none of this is your fault / texting you feels a little aggressive,” he sings. “I saw your text, that’s how I knew / Tell me the truth and your reasons.”
Allen, for his part, revealed that The Times that Madeline is a “fictional character” and a construct of multiple people, rather than a representation of a specific person.
“I feel like we’re living in really interesting times, in terms of how we define intimacy and monogamy, whether people are disposable or not,” she said. “The way we are intimate with each other is changing as humans. Many young women no longer find the idea of marriage or even a long-term relationship so attractive.”
Allen continued, “I don’t know (that) it’s necessarily a bad thing. A lot of people in my parents’ generation stayed together forever and were miserable. You didn’t have endless options, so maybe you worked at something harder. But now they don’t have to.”

Harbour, for his part, has said that he plans to keep his lips closed about his relationship with Allen. In April, the actor said GQ“I am protective of people and the reality of my life. This way of participating (with rumours) is of no use because everything is based on hysterical hyperbole.”
Allen was previously in a relationship with Sam Cooper, whom he married in 2011. The exes separated in 2018 after welcoming the daughters Ethel, now 13, and Marnie, now 12.
