After Kid Rock landed a headlining show at Turning Point USA’s 2026 Super Bowl alternate halftime show, his 2001 song “Cool, Daddy Cool” resurfaced and is raising a new set of eyebrows.
“I wonder if Kid Rock will sing ‘Cool Daddy Cool?’” one social media user tweeted on Wednesday, February 4th. “Kid Rock will sing his song ‘Cool, Daddy Cool’ which has these lyrics: ‘Young ladies, young ladies, I like the underages,’ ‘See some say this is legal? But I say it’s mandatory.’
Rock, 55, released “Cool, Daddy Cool” in 2001.
“On my cell I get paid, G, you can’t call me, just call me,” he sings. “Young men, girls, I like underage, you see. Some say this is legal / But I say it’s mandatory / My story is not so complex, two forty and a Rolex.”
Turning Point USA, the right-wing conservative organization founded by the deceased Charlie Kirkannounced earlier this week that Rock was among the headliners for the so-called organization Super Bowl 60 alternate halftime show meant to “celebrate faith, family and freedom”. (Bad Bunnywho hails from the US territory of Puerto Rico, will perform at the actual Super Bowl LX on Sunday, February 8.)
“We intend to play great songs for people who love America,” Rock said in a statement on Monday, February 2. “We approach this show like David and Goliath. Competing with the machine of pro football and a global pop superstar is almost impossible… or isn’t it?”
Rock still took aim at Bad Bunny, 33, and his ensemble.
“Did he say he’s having a dance party, wearing a dress and singing in Spanish?” Rock concluded in his statement. “Great. We intend to play great songs for people who love America.”
The Turning Point show has since sparked a backlash, from individuals who believe the so-called Christian ethos of the event contradicts some of Rock’s songs, such as “Cool, Daddy Cool”.
“Y’all are disgusting,” one social media user tweeted, with another adding: “Gotta love your Cool Daddy lyrics. Right on the mark for the GOP (party).”
While Rock hasn’t addressed the backlash to “Cool, Daddy Cool,” Turning Point executives are defending the upcoming show.
“It’s powerful because what Charlie always loved and knew was that he wanted to be at the forefront of the culture war,” said Charlie’s widow Kirk. Erika Kirk (née Franztve), he said on Fox News on Wednesday. “I would be very excited about it. I would be very excited. And what better way to honor him than to be in the middle of it and be able to provide an alternative for families.”
Erika, 37, took over as CEO of Turning Point USA after Charlie was shot and killed in 2025 during a conversation in Utah. Charlie, who was 31 at the time of his murder, is survived by Erika and the couple’s two children.
“(Our programs are) holistic, it’s for the whole house,” Erika said at the exit of the upcoming alternative concert. “It’s all ages, and so to be able to offer an alternative that’s pro-America, that’s just pro-everything, that’s not the opposite of what they’re putting out there; I don’t want to go into detail and attack it because apparently there’s an audience that wants that, but there’s a bigger audience that wants ours.”
