Joy-Anna Duggar reacts after some of his followers criticize a decision he made with his daughter.
Publication via his Instagram storyOn Friday, October 24, Duggar, 27, re-shared an earlier post she had uploaded. In the original post, Duggar had mentioned that it would be removed from the walls of her daughter’s hot pink bedroom.
In the original post, Duggar shared a photo of her five-year-old daughter Evelyn’s bedroom, noting that the color will soon transition to a more neutral hue as the family renovates their home.
“Definitely not going for that style…Evelyn is sad to see the bright pink go, but I promised her we’d make her room so pretty!” Duggar captioned the post at the time. “I’m thinking somewhere between country house and French! I want very natural tones throughout the house with lots of antique pieces. A very lived-in look!”

After the post, Duggar received critical comments from some of her followers, which she shared via her Instagram story.
“Too bad you don’t let your kids express themselves. They love color but of course you have to squash their creativity #badparenting,” read one comment. Another follower added: “It’s so sad you’re forcing it.”
Duggar responded to those comments and shared more context about her decision to ditch the bright color.
“Ok, I got these comments on my post yesterday… I’ll clear it up. We’re redoing the whole house… NEW drywall, new paint, everything,” Duggar wrote. “So the bright pink walls are going bye-bye. Maybe we’ll pick a fun color later, but for now I’m keeping things neutral until the renovation is done.”
Defending her parenting choices, Duggar continued, “She still gets to choose fun things like decor and bedding. But saying no to neon walls doesn’t make me a bad mom.”
Duggar and husband Austin Forsyth welcomed Evelyn in 2020. They they are also parents to sons Gideon and Gunner, who were born in 2018 and 2023 respectively.
In 2019, the couple suffered a heartbreaking loss with the death of his daughter Annabell at 20 weeks.
Duggar he opened up about the loss on a July episode of the “Jinger and Jeremy” podcast.
“I guess looking back, I kind of had a feeling that something might not be right,” he recalled on the podcast. “But I’m also like, ‘I don’t want to overdo it.’ Like, I don’t want to read things. … I just remember feeling so numb coming out of the ultrasound. … I was so scared.”

Duggar noted that the process of having to deliver Annabell at 20 was especially emotional.
“It was extremely difficult, having to go through the whole delivery process,” he said. “I’m so thankful that I had (my mom) there that she’d been through it before … and I had a really good support team, but even with all that, it was extremely difficult.”
Duggar is the ninth child of Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar and is best known for appearing on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On.
