Former player and broadcaster John Virgo has died at the age of 79, the world snooker announced.

Virgo’s most notable win was in the 1979 British Championship final where he beat Terry Griffiths.

Other key career wins include the 1980 Bombay International, the 1980 Pontins Professional and the 1984 Professional Snooker League.

He co-hosted the TV show Big Break with comedian Jim Davidson in the 1990s.
