Italian companies lack female CEOs, stock exchange head warning

The head of the Milan Stock Exchange said that Italy’s lack of leadership is a cultural issue that the business community needs to solve.

“Last year, we probably listed the lowest levels among the leading companies of the Milan’s Stock Exchange,” Claudia Parzani, chairman of Borsa Italiana Spa at Euronext NV NV, said at a Bloomberg New Voice event on Tuesday.

She warned the country that needs to attract new talent, including qualified women. She added that Italy needs to pay attention to the “human factors” in the AI era.

Parzani is also a senior consultant to the Linklaters LLP law firm and a non-executive director of Carmaker Stellantis NV.

Speaking about the capital markets in Italy, Parzani stressed the importance of making the market more attractive to smaller and medium-sized enterprises. “We are looking at important things, namely liquidity in the market, especially for smaller companies, and expanding the category of institutional domestic investors as much as possible.”

She said she still said that the market window for IPO products is not always available and puts Italy in tempting competitive markets like France and Germany.
