Two women are gang-raped and a person killed in attack near a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site in South India, according to police.
The two girls – a tourist of Israel and an Indian homestay operator – seeking three tourist men near a lake on Thursday Thursday Ram Arasiddive.
Arasiddi says murderers push men to the drain of the tungabadra river before women are raped.
Two of the men, one of Americans, who survived, and the whole person of the third person recovered on Saturday morning, he said.
“Five people – two women and three men – attacked near Sanapur,” Arasidti said.
“Two of them are foreigners, an American (man), and another woman from Israel.”
Police arrested two of the men who were accused of attacking and the investigation continued, Arasidti said.
Police believe that men follow the group.
According to the proof of witnessing from one of the women, the group intends to a Sanopur temple when three men reached a motorcycle and asked where they could obtain fuel.
As a group member gives them directions, one of three men ask 100 rupees ($ 1.29) from tourists.
“Since the homestay operator was not yet known, he told them that they had no money,” says police.
“When men repeatedly insult, one of the tourists gives them 20 rupees.
“After this, the three men said to argue.”
The body of one of the tourist men was later found at the Tungabhadra Canal in Karnataka’s Koppal District.
A case is registered in Ganavathhi Rural Police Station under sections associated with rape, robbery, gang rape and attempt killing.
Victims received medical treatment at a government hospital, police said.
The Hampi, an ancient village of South India State of Karnataka, is home to many ruins and temples from Vijayanagara Empire. It was declared as a World Heritage site in UNESCO in 1986.
In an X post, the principal minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah wrote: “Attack and rape of a citizen of Israel and homestay owns a most destructive act.
“After the incident, I got information from the relevant police, conducting a thorough examination, and taught them to easily identify the reasons.
“Police arrested two defendants related to the case and continued investigation.”
Indian women’s attacks have taken international attention in the last year after the fierce rape of homicide to a junior doctor in a hospital in the Eastern City of Kolkata.
