Iran has sentenced Palme d’Or-winning filmmaker Jafar Panahi in absentia to a year in prison and a two-year travel ban for alleged “propaganda activities”, his lawyer said on Monday. The ruling also bans him from joining political or social groups, and his legal team plans to appeal.
