Catholic influencer Paul Kim is mourning the death of his son Micah after a medical emergency.
“Micah Joseph begins the new year basking in God’s endless glory, love and peace,” Kim wrote via Instagram on Thursday, January 1. “Micah has already been very busy, as I see that the Lord is using him and sending him on missions to bring millions of people closer to God. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses (Heb 12:1) of which my son is now a part. I could not be a prouder father. This reality gives me great joy and hope in the middle.”
Kim confirmed that her 5-year-old son died on Wednesday, December 31, and that he is “already in heaven working.”
“Our hearts are broken, but we trust in the Lord,” he continued. “Pray for my family and me as we learn to live by faith and not by sight.”
Kim caught the attention of her followers on Dec. 21 when she revealed that Micah was in a hospital and on life support after a “medical emergency.” Doctors gradually reduced life support, with Micah’s lungs showing slow improvement on a ventilator. A subsequent MRI, however, revealed severe brain damage.
Over the next 11 days, Kim shared updates with her followers and received support from thousands of believers, including Gwen Stefani i The Chosen star Jonathan Roumie.
In addition to an outpouring of prayers for Micah, a GoFundMe campaign it was also put in place to support the family amid mounting medical costs.
“Thank you for all the love, prayers and compassion that so many of you have shown us,” Kim shared Thursday. “May God truly bless you. Your prayers for Micah were answered, but in a different way than we all expected. God healed him and welcomed him into eternal life. He is where we all want to be.”
While fighting back tears in an Instagram video, Kim asked for privacy and time for her family to mourn. At the same time, he sounded like “I owe you all an update as a thank you.”
“After fighting for 11 long, hard days, Micah went home to our father. We are so proud of him,” she shared through tears. “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, as her father and on behalf of my family, for all the ways you prayed for us and lifted us up during this incredibly difficult and impossible time for our family. It has been the hardest thing I have ever been through in my life and continues to be.”
Kim, who is a father of six and an ambassador for Cross Catholic Outreach, assured followers that he has not lost his faith. In fact, she trusts that her son now hears her prayers along with many others.
“Be assured I will pray for you and your intentions for the rest of my life. We will and Micah will,” she said in another message. Instagram video. “You can go to my Saint Micah and ask for his prayers. His prayers are powerful, man.”
