For years, the Dutch authorities regularly dismantle illegal drug laboratories that produce amphetamines, ecstasies and cocaine – often hidden remote, rural areas. But one of the lesser-known consequences of this illegal industry is hard to pollute the environment that leaves behind. The barrels filled with hazardous substances are often thrown in forests, fields and even protected nature reserves. Last year, only 217 illegal landfills that was discovered across the country.
