On Tuesday, 54 couples walked hand-in-hand, brides dressed in traditional Palestinian dresses with white and red embroidery accented with scarlet ribbons, while grooms walked beside them in black suits and ties. Yet the surrounding scene told another story: dilapidated buildings, piles of concrete and rubble bearing the marks of the two-year conflict in the Gaza Strip. They were united in marriage during a mass wedding ceremony in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza — a defiant celebration of life amid the ravages of war.
