Judges of the International Crime Court (ICC) have issued a arrest warrant to two top Taliban leaders on charges of harassing women and girls.
The ICC judge on Tuesday said that Taliban supreme leader Hibutullah Akhundada and Chief Justice Abdul Hakim Hakani were suspected to have sexually persecuted.
“The Taliban has imposed some rules and ban on the population overall, but they have especially targeted girls and women for their gender reasons and deprive them of fundamental rights and freedom,” the court said.
The ICC judges said that the Taliban “strictly deprived girls and women” from the freedom of education, privacy and family life and movement, expression, thoughts, conscience and religion.
“In addition, other individuals were targeted because these particular expressions of sexual and/or gender identification were considered inconsistent with the Taliban’s policy on sex.”
The alleged crimes were committed during August 15, 2021, when the Taliban seized power and continued till January 20, 2025.
The ICC in Heg was established to rule the worst crimes in the world, such as war crimes and crimes against humanity. He does not have his own police force and depends on the member countries to carry out his arrest warrant – with mixed results.
In theory, this means that the member cannot go to the state for fear of being subjected to the arrest of the ICC arrest warrant.
