How General Hospital paid tribute to Anthony Geary after his death


General Hospital is paying tribute to the cast member Anthony Geary less than a month later his death.

On the Thursday, January 1, episode of the ABC soap opera, viewers were treated to a special encore from Geary’s last episode as Luke Spencer. The episode originally aired on July 27, 2015, and marked the end of Geary’s nearly four decades with Port Charles and the show.

“Loved the show today!!!!❤️❤️ Thanks GH,” one fan wrote Instagram after the broadcast of the program. Another added: “I was crying at the end. I don’t usually watch when they put on an encore but this was special.”

“Geary joined for the first time General Hospital in 1978 after catching the attention of the show’s executive producer, Gloria Monty. While he briefly played Bill Eckert, the actor primarily took on the role of Luke Spencer until he retired in 2015.

Last month, Geary’s husband, Claudio Gamaconfirmed the news of the soap star’s death. He was 78 years old.

“It was a shock to me and to our families and our friends,” Gama shared in a statement to TV Insider on December 15, 2025. “For over 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my partner, my husband.”

According to the publication, Geary’s death was the result of complications from an operation scheduled days earlier.

After Geary’s death was confirmed, many co-stars paid tribute and shared fond memories of working with the actor.

“I was only 19 at my first job, General Hospitaland Tony could not have been kinder or more welcoming. At this age, everything feels big. It made him feel safe,” John Stamos wrote via Instagram. “It changed the face of daytime television. And in very real ways, it changed my life.”

Finola Hughes — who played many characters General Hospitalincluding Anna Devane, Dr. Liesl Obrecht and Alex Devane also honored their online co-star and friend.

“Tony. The original. Took my breath away, so magical, creative, fearless,” she wrote via Instagram on December 16, 2025. “The stuff of legend. Glad I got to hang out with you and Claudio in Amsterdam for a couple of summers. Best host, conversationalist, deep thinker, witty and kind storyteller… Thanks Tony for the good times, for sharing your heart and spirit.”

Away from the small screen, Geary seemed to be living a quiet life in Amsterdam with her husband.

In February 2025, Gama confirmed that he had been married to Geary for six years and together for 30 years.

By breaking his silence Geary’s deathGama said her late husband is now “resting where the stars shine”.

“He will always be missed. His love, his life, his art speak for themselves. Me, Max and the family want to thank all of Tony’s friends and colleagues for the wonderful support and respect you have shown,” she wrote via Instagram on December 22, 2025. “To all of Tony’s fans, thank you so much for the wonderful words of support and condolences. He always told me everything he did as an actor, as an artist was for his fans. Without your love and support, he would never have reached the heights he did in his career.”
