- Dermarite Industries recalls several soaps and preservative cleaners. Soap can infect bacteria and can lead to sepsis in people with low immune function. Consumers are encouraged to stop using affected items immediately.
Most of the time, washing hands is the best way to kill bacteria. But a New Jersey manufacturer of soap in New Jersey made an emergency recall after discovering that four of its products may include Burkholderia cepacia Complex (BCC), a bacterial population that can cause chronic lung infections and can be fatal to people who are vulnerable to illness. For these patients, infections can spread to the bloodstream, leading to life-threatening sepsis.
Dermarite Industries, the company behind the recall, said no reports of illness or worse have been received. Consumers with recalled items can send them via email Formuntary.action@dermarite.com. It is recommended that they stop using them immediately.
Several soaps, external sugar management products, antibacterial foam soaps and anticorrosion cleaners are included in the recall. If you are a Dermarite user, you need to check the brand name and lot number of the product to determine whether they are included.
