After Kate Walsh came back Grey’s Anatomyviewers noticed a possible continuity error involving Addison.
During Walsh’s guest appearance in the most recent episode, Addison and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) were seen linked on a plate of cookies. But while Amelia, now sober, paired it with a glass of milk, Addison opted for wine.
“Quick question for the Greys Anatomy writers,” read one fan post on X. “Why did you bring Addison into Season 18 and have her tell us she was struggling with alcohol, only to show her casually drinking VI in Season 22?”
Some social media users responded they were just as confused about whether Addison had a drinking problem after seeing her with wine. Others, however, pointed out that Addison never claimed she was sober.
“But she’s not an alcoholic and doesn’t claim to be. Everyone drank a lot during quarantine,” noted one response. “Most sober people are also comfortable with other people drinking around them… they still go to parties and bars and eat out with the family.”
The biggest issue for some, however, was Addison drinking in front of Amelia after helping her get sober. “THEEEE person you coordinated an intervention and supported through your ups and downs with sobriety,” read one response.

Elsewhere in the episode, Addison paid Amelia a visit to help with a pregnant patient suffering from a tumor affecting her sight. In an effort to get Amelia back on track, Addison revealed that her marriage to husband Jake (Benjamin Bratt) may be over.
Addison refused to share more details about her problems, but Amelia finally talked her into opening up. Addison said that Jake was forcing her to choose between her marriage and her career, and she chose the latter.
Addison and Amelia talked about their options before realizing that the relationship probably couldn’t be saved. They ended the episode bonding at Amelia’s apartment, but it remains to be seen what Addison will do with her personal life.
“There is always hope!” Walsh, 58, told Variety. “Look, what he’s doing is so radically different, and everything has changed so much. I think it would be really interesting to actually see it play out or see what comes of it.”
Walsh later defended the story line despite the reaction
“I really loved (that breakup story). I was like, ‘She should be in danger,'” Walsh added. “My thing is, I love that she does all these things and comes back. There is this kind of desperation, but how does this manifest itself in your real life? How does it manifest itself at work? What does the clinic look like? Oceanside still (around)? What’s going on?”
He continued, “(I want to) catch up a little bit and really see the ramifications of the decisions he’s making and the sacrifices he’s making. I think a lot of people can relate to that.”
Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC on Thursdays at 10pm ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.
