AI Fashion, Google Conversational Search feature For complex questions, be more personal. The tech giant announced Thursday that it’s bringing “Personal Intelligence” to its AI Mode, allowing it to tap into Gmail and Google Photos to provide more individualized responses.
The first company personal intelligence debut last week in the Gemini app to allow AI assistants to adjust responses by connecting to the Google ecosystem, starting with Gmail history, Photos, Search, and YouTube.
The opt-in feature is now rolling out to AI Mode to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra customers in English in the US
By bringing Personal Intelligence to Gemini Mode and AI, Google is leveraging the wealth of user data it already has in its ecosystem. Because users already rely on services like Gmail and Photos, Google can offer a more personalized experience that competitors can’t easily match. Of course, not everyone wants AI to see their photos and emails, so you can turn Personal Intelligence on or off at any time.
“With Personalized Intelligence, recommendations don’t just match your interests – they match your life,” said Robby Stein, VP of Product, Google Search, in a post a blog. “You don’t have to constantly explain your options or existing plans, so choose a recommendation just for you, right from the start.”

Say you’re planning a vacation and looking for things to do and places to eat that everyone in the family will enjoy. With Personal Intelligence, AI Mode can draw on hotel bookings in Gmail and past travel memories in Google Photos to suggest the perfect itinerary for everyone. For example, you can see recommendations like old ice cream shops based on the many ice cream selfies saved in Google Photos.
Google notes that AI Mode doesn’t just provide a general list of restaurants and activities; rather than providing a personal starting point for planning.

“Personal intelligence can also be very useful for shopping, as AI Mode takes into account the types of things you buy and where you buy them,” Stein wrote. “If you need a new coat for an upcoming trip, AI Mode can automatically consider the brands you like, as well as confirm flights in Gmail to identify the destination and time (Chicago in March). You’ll get recommendations for windproof and versatile coats that suit the weather and the look you like. It’s like a personal shopper who already knows your itinerary and vibe.”
Google says other questions you can ask are: “Do a scavenger hunt for (partner’s name) to celebrate our birthday. For each location, include a clue about us,” or “I’m decorating (child’s name) bedroom, give me ideas for the theme and suggestions for decorating.”
The company notes that AI Mode does not train directly on your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. However, it is an exercise in specific directions and model responses.
