Gofundme has introduced a new offering that allows you to buy digital gift cards for your loved ones, so they can donate to their favorite nonprofits during the holidays.
Gift cards start at $5 and come in a variety of themes and causes, including birthdays, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Ramadan, as well as cards for animal lords, and nature protectors.
These cards can be different from traditional gift cards, though. They operate through Give fundsFunds-Donors who do not have GOFUNDME – DAF advice). Launched in June, this marks the platform’s first entry into DAFs, aiming to make it accessible to everyday people. Historically, donor advised funds have been out of reach for most people due to minimal contributions and fees.
If the recipient claims the gift card, the amount is deposited into the donor’s personal fund. Then they have the option to contribute directly or allow the funds to grow freely in their account, which gives them the opportunity to contribute later. People who buy gift cards receive a tax deduction.
Recipients can choose from 1.4 million nonprofits on the platform, ranging from local food banks to global organizations that provide disaster relief, and support animal welfare.
The new gofundme strategy can attract users for several reasons. For example, instead of giving public gifts, people can help support their loved ones by running a soup kitchen that helps them help their families, at a time when many people are struggling to put food on the table.
