Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc and Schwimmer starred on Friends alongside Perry for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. After the show ended, the co-stars remained close.
In October 2023, Perry died of an accidental overdose. The autopsy revealed that the actor’s death was caused by “acute effects of ketamine.”
“We are all so devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are family,” the Friends cast said in a joint statement to Us Weekly at the time. “There is so much to say, but right now we will take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. We will continue to say more over time, as we can. For now, our thoughts and love are with Matty’s family, his friends and all those who loved him around the world.”
Before his death, Perry was open about his struggles with addiction and substance abuse. Perry’s loved ones created the foundation in honor of the late actor to help others struggling with addiction.
Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc and Schwimmer attended Perry’s memorial service in Los Angeles along with their loved ones.
Earlier this year, Aniston explained how it would be unimaginable for the Friends cast to have another reunion now that Perry is gone. (The cast reunited in 2021 for an HBO Max special titled Friends: The Meetingwhere they revisited the set and looked back on the filming of the series. It was Perry’s last screen appearance.)
“It would be literally, physically impossible,” he said of the cast doing a possible revival or remake of Friends without Perry in an October interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
Aniston added that there was something magical about working with her co-stars.
“There’s something about the chemistry of the cast that made it a lightning-in-a-bottle moment,” he reflected. “And that just happened to be caught on camera.”
