French MPs approve bill to end ‘marriage duty’ after concerns about consent




French lawmakers unanimously approved a bill on Wednesday to abolish the concept of “marital duty,” following criticism from women’s rights groups that it undermines sexual consent and enables marital rape. The bill, supported by more than 120 deputies, clarifies that cohabitation does not oblige spouses to have sex and now goes to the Senate for approval.
