A painting of oil in the 18th century accused of being damaged after a guest of the museum trapped while taking a selfie.
The Florence Gallery told a tourist who fell back while trying to “make a meme in front” in a picture of Ferdinando de ‘Medici, Grand Prinsico Gabbiani.
The museum explains the damage may be again but Director warns Simone Verde to restrictions on future behavior.
He said to a statement: “The problem of guests comes to museums to make memes or bring their social media widely.
“We will place clear limits, prevent the behavior that does not match the meaning of our institutions and respect for cultural heritage,” he added.
The picture shown as part of an exhibition called Florence and Europe: Arts of the eighteenth century in Uffizi.
According to the gallery the guest was identified by the police and reported to judicial authorities.
The exhibition, consisting of about 150 art works, closed now until 2 July after the incident. Painting is well in the interim so it is ready to go back.
The exhibition then runs, as was originally planned, until 28 November.

The director of the Museum Vanesta Carlon says: “Sometimes we lose our brain to take a picture, and we don’t think about the consequences.
“Of course it’s an accident, but these two people left nothing – that wasn’t an accident.”
