
The death toll from floods and landslides in parts of Asia climbed past 1,160 on Monday as worst-hit Sri Lanka and Indonesia deployed military personnel to help survivors. Speaking to FRANCE 24’s Mark Owen, Dr Akshay Deoras, a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Reading, says “the focus needs to shift from talking about climate change to actually dealing with it on the ground and keeping people out of vulnerable areas”.
