Madelyn Keys it’s heavy afterwards Finding your edge had viewers torn between Brayden and Freddie, and is clearing up a divisive Season 1 before the show returns for more episodes.
During an exclusive interview with We weekly, keys, 24, addressed Adriana now calling him boyfriend Freddie (Olly Atkins) than her romance with love interest and fellow figure skater Brayden (Via Ambrosic) was not real.
“I think it was real for Adriana. Everyone can have their own opinion watching the show. Obviously, I’m not here to take that away from you. But when I was reading the scripts and going over it, my personal opinion about what was going to happen to her is that it was absolutely real for Adriana,” Keys noted. “But I think at the same time, her relationship with Freddie was one that got mixed up with a lot of her history, especially with so much history of an era that was so important to her.”
Keys noted that Adriana’s attraction to Freddie was finally “stronger” in Season 1.
“Especially with that line of ‘It wasn’t real,’ I think it’s something she says without thinking about the full implications of it,” he explained. “And again, it’s without knowing that Brayden is there to witness that moment, even if he doesn’t hear the words. Adriana in that moment tries to express that the public acts of affection that Freddie witnessed, that she knew would hurt him, were part of the plan. It’s not about the moments that she and Brayden shared in private.”
She continued, “But I also think that’s not what she’s thinking at the time. If Brayden was there to discuss it with her, she would talk differently.”
based on Jennifer Iacopellithe novel of of the same name, Finding Her Edge is a teenage romance about a figure skater whose family legacy and rink are in jeopardy. He has to pretend to be in a fake relationship with his new partner for sponsorships while still working through feelings for his old partner.

Iacopelli, meanwhile, also weighed in on Adriana claiming her feelings for Brayden “weren’t real,” adding, “As far as the show goes, that’s my interpretation. I think on the show, she didn’t think what she had with Brayden was real, or at least she was lying to herself that it wasn’t real. That’s the vibe.”
The author could see where Adriana was coming from.
“She’s a one-track mind for pretty much the entire book, other than these moments where she’s like, ‘Oh, this is what people talk about when they talk about a physical connection,'” Iacopelli shared. “She’s having these enlightening moments and maybe she was a little obtuse to not recognize them. Hopefully I’ll make that journey on the page as well.”
The hit series premiered in January as viewers tuned in to see Adriana’s growing connection with Brayden and Freddie.
“There are absolutely passionate fans on both sides of the spectrum. For me personally, it’s been interesting to see what the fans of each like the most. There’s a world where as Adriana grows in the next season, I hope those same things for these characters as well,” Keys said. “Maybe you’re a fan who loves that Freddie is kind, even when he’s upset with Adriana. He puts her first and is someone who’s doing his best at all times, even if that’s not what he’s doing is stepping up when he feels like he should. That’s a quality that Brayden should emulate and that would serve him well.”
The actress added: “At the same time, that feeling of having more self-confidence and a security in who you are and what you want and what you deserve is something that I also think Freddie can learn from. So I think when you choose a team, how much do you choose their characteristics, what could change, compared to who they are right now? Next.”
While that of Iacopelli The book ended with Adriana Making the same decision as the end of the show, Netflix renewing Finding her Edge meant possible changes to the screen.
“It’s even debatable whether that’s going to be the decision, I don’t know. We have another season to look forward to. I think for me, it was about looking at both what had happened in Jennifer Iacopelli’s book and also her source material, which is Jane Austen’s Persuasion.”
In addition, the main trio, Finding your edge also stars Alexandra Beaton, Alice Malakhov, Millie Davis, Niko Ceci i Harmon Walsh. Canadian Figure Skating Champions Piper Gilles i Paul Poirier appeared as themselves in one episode while British figure skating champions purple fear i Lewis Gibson television commentators of the program. (Iacopelli made a brief appearance as a librarian on the show.)
Keys is excited about where the show will go from here, including Adriana forming bonds outside of her love triangle. More specifically, Keys suggested more scenes between Adriana and Riley (Davis) after the Season 1 finale.
“For a lot of Season 1, Riley isn’t treated like she should be. I think Adriana takes her for granted and takes their friendship for granted,” he shared. “So I love that last moment where we see that this isn’t the Riley we saw before. Now there’s more to it and she trusts it. I want to see Riley get mad at Adriana. I want her to put her in her place, and obviously I want them to stay a friendship through it all. I hope they find a way to work it out, but Adriana needs to be held accountable first.”
Finding your edge it is currently streaming on Netflix.
