
An area of the Sicilian town of Nishemi was declared off-limits after a four-kilometre-long slope collapsed on Sunday, forcing the evacuation of around 1,500 people. Although there were no deaths or injuries, experts say the bayou could widen – and topple more houses – when the rains fall again. Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni visited on Wednesday, flying a helicopter over the cut hillside and deep cracks in the fields below.
