A loose sequel to the Ocean’s 11 director’s trilogy Steven Soderbergh, Ocean’s 8 it’s worth watching even if it doesn’t parallel real-world events.

Sandra Bullock shines as a charismatic con artist
The connecting fabric between this film and the previous trilogy is Sandra BullockDeborah “Debbie” Ocean, the previously undisclosed sister George ClooneyDanny Ocean’s character. Perhaps the most disturbing part of this story is that it depicts Danny as dead off-screen. But it’s the kind of thing that can be easily ignored if it’s ever there Ocean’s Fourteen.
As for Debbie, she’s her brother’s sister in the best way. She assembles the cons on the spur of the moment, and Bullock plays her with such confidence that few question it. Debbie would have fit right in with Danny’s team, and that’s a great compliment to her skill as a thief.
The ensemble cast is very attractive
For a movie that was made seven years ago, Ocean’s 8 still has impeccable casting for supporting roles. Cate Blanchett get the brad pitt role of Lou Miller, Debbie’s best friend and the only real partner she has. The rest of the characters are mainly recruited because they have the specific skills needed for the job. Amita (Mindy Kaling) can create gems, while Constance (Awkwafina) is a gifted pickpocket. Meanwhile, Leslie “Nine Ball” Jordan (Rihanna) is the hacker every good team needs.
The third installment of the Now You See me trilogy is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited. Rose Weil (Helena Bonham Carter) proves its worth with the insider information it provides. That leaves Tammy (Sarah Paulson) to act as a utility player and the eventual shooter of the stolen jewels. The eighth and final member of the group is actress Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway). And he is not even aware that he is part of the robbery!

Leaving Daphne in the dark was a choice Debbie made, partly because there was never any guarantee that the former would follow through with the plan. Aside from Debbie herself, Daphne is the standout member of the ensemble because Hathaway portrays her as a stereotypical, self-centered narcissist.
This is largely played for laughs, and Hathaway also seems to be faking her own image as an actress. However, at no point does Daphne become one of the film’s villains. She may be the subject of some jokes, but Hathaway’s performance finds enough humanity in Daphne that she also has likable traits.
Netflix has seriously upped its game in the original movie department these past few years. Last year brought us the excellent romantic comedy Hit Man starring Glen Powell and the thrilling action flick Rebel Ridge, but those films pale in comparison to what the streamer has in store for the rest of 2025. “Ocean’s 8” has a fun heist to watch
Debbie’s elaborate con is set during the Met Gala, a true annual event in New York City, but it’s rarely as interesting as it is portrayed in this film. Every member of your team has an important role to play. This includes Daphne, regardless of her knowledge or intentions.
However, Debbie has an ulterior motive that she kept from her team. She doesn’t just want the money, she wants revenge on her ex-partner, Claude Becker (Richard Armitage), the man who had her sent to prison. This adds a significant amount of risk to the plan at the end of the film. But the joy of a heist movie is always the part where the audience sees the plan executed. This is where Ocean’s 8 deliver the goods.
