Connor Allan scored a sublime late winner as Falkirk moved up to fourth in the Scottish Premiership after coming from behind to beat Dundee 2-1 at Falkirk Stadium.
The centre-back, who was only in the side following an injury to defender Louis Nilsson, won the ball in the Dundee half and coolly saw off a number of challenges before slotting the ball past John McCracken to seal victory in the 89th minute.
Dundee defender Clarke Robertson scored either side earlier as the competitive match appeared to be heading for a draw.
Robertson, who is the Dark Blues’ top scorer this season with four goals, headed home from Cameron Congreve’s corner to give Dundee a first-half lead.
But the hosts, who were poor in the first 45 minutes, made a significant improvement after the break and a hapless Robertson headed Ethan Williams’ effort into his own net shortly after half-time.
Falkirk also hit the wall through Calvin Miller and Ross MacIver during a frenzied 10-minute spell after the break, but they could not withstand the pressure as the match looked headed for a draw before Allan’s late intervention.
The away side created the first chance after just two minutes when a corner was cleared by Simon Murray at the far post, but Falkirk goalkeeper Scott Bain was able to block the shot.
Falkirk’s first chance of recognition did not come until the 22nd minute when Miller charged towards the edge of the box before deflecting a shot harmlessly wide with the outside of his boot.
Dundee took the lead out of the blue in the 26th minute with the simplest of goals, as Congreve’s corner was met by Robertson who headed the ball into the ground and past the helpless Bane.
There was a delay just before the break as VAR checked whether Dundee could be penalized after Ethan Hamilton was challenged by Kyrel Wilson, but the appeal was eventually dismissed, with Hamilton booked despite appearing to have touched the ball first.
Falkirk flew out of the traps after the break.
First, Miller’s side-footed effort came back off the crossbar in the 49th minute after Dundee keeper McCracken gifted the ball to Wilson.
And Burns were level moments later as Robertson could only divert the ball into his own net after Williams curled a free-kick over the bar.
Dundee were shell-shocked and the home side were inches away from taking the lead in the 56th minute when McIver headed Keelan Adams’ inviting cross to McCracken’s right-hand post.
It was now one-way traffic and McCracken was forced into two saves just after the hour mark, diving to his right to keep out an improvised shot from Miller, before parrying Dylan Tait’s long-range shot over the bar.
With the clock ticking down to the 90th minute, Allan beat Emil Acqua and showed incredible composure to see off two Dundee challenges before coolly slotting the ball into the far corner from eight yards.
