A massive fire has broken out at a market in western Tehran, officials said, sending plumes of black smoke billowing over the Iranian capital.
The cause of the fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning, was not immediately clear.
Tehran Emergency Services Operations Commander Mohammad Behnia said there were “no injuries so far” in the fire.
The fire broke out in a market in the western Jannat Abad neighborhood of the capital, an area packed with stalls and shops, state television said, citing the city’s fire department.
“The fire is so extensive that it can be seen from different parts of Tehran,” said Jalal Maleki, a spokesman for the fire department.
According to Iran’s official IRNA news agency, Maleki later said the fire had been “brought under control” and that “smoke removal and spot-check operations” were underway.
State television said firefighters were rushed to the scene to put the fire under control.
