Former mayor of New York Eric Adams I had words to choose from Andy Cohen after the Bravo star criticized him CNN Live New Year’s Eve on Wednesday, December 31.
Cohen, 57, celebrated the end of Adams’ run as mayor shortly after midnight on Thursday, Jan. 1, as Zohran Mamdani was being sworn in as the 112th mayor of New York.
Cohen said he called Adams’ mayor “chaotic,” sarcastically saying, “Great, you’ve got your pardons. Ride off into the sunset. We’ll play with what we’ve got, what you’ve left us.”
“Go dance away,” Cohen continued. “I’ll see you at every party. You’ve had your way for four years.”
Soon after Anderson Cooper began hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage from Times Square in 2002, the news show often became the news. Adams, 65, hit Cohen again using a X post later Thursday, writing: “My response to @Andy: AA. Another sloppy drunk.”
“If someone really cares about him, they will tell him to get help,” she continued. “New Yorkers are not laughing with him. They are worried about him. Public intoxication is a disease. He should seek help.”
“I was safe in Times Square because we did our job. Again,” Adams wrote, referring to Cohen hosting CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve special live from Times Square.
“Get help. AAA: Andy’s Alcohol Anonymous,” he concluded.

In 2024, Adams, who served as mayor of New York from January 2022 to December 2025, faced federal indictment on charges including bribery, fraud and solicitation of illegal foreign campaign donations. He pleaded not guilty. Charges against him were later dropped.
Cohen, meanwhile, hosted CNN’s notoriously boosome Live New Year’s Eve special with Anderson Cooper for the ninth consecutive year.

The couple was joined by an actor BJ Novak Shortly after midnight, when Cohen commented on Adams’ tenure as mayor, he prompted Novak to joke, “Andy, Andy, we’ve got to cut you off. I’ve seen that happen.”
Novak was referring to Cohen’s infamous rant about another former mayor of New York, Bill de Blasioduring CNN’s 2021-22 New Year’s Eve special. “(I’ve been) watching Mayor de Blasio do his ‘victory lap’ dance after four years of the shittiest job as mayor of New York,” Cohen said at the time. “The only thing Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he’s been, so sayonara, sucka!”
CNN defended Cohen at the time, saying in a statement, “Andy said something he shouldn’t have on live TV. We’ve taken it up with him and hope to bring him back next year.”
For his part, Cohen said during an appearance in February 2022 Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he he didn’t remember much of the upset.
“(Anderson Cooper and I) got in the car after (the CNN special) and I saw on Twitter the rant I made about De Blasio. And I didn’t remember, even though it was about 40 minutes before, saying, ‘Sayonara, sucka’ to the mayor leaving New York,” Cohen explained.
He added: “I went, ‘Oh my God, I said, ‘Sayonara, sucka.’ And (Cooper) said, “Yeah, you did!”
Cohen said he “had a blast” hosting the show with Cooper, 58. “It’s so much fun to get drunk on CNN and rage on a soapbox. There were endorphins that were releasing. I was like, ‘That’s good!’ “, he said.
