Harry Brooke has apologized for “embarrassing myself and the team” after an altercation with a New Zealand nightclub bouncer last autumn.
Report in The Telegraph said Brooke, England’s white-ball captain, hit by a bouncer on a night out before the New Zealand ODI in Wellington on November 1.
The 26-year-old was given a final warning and fined around £30,000.
In his statement, Brook said: “I want to apologize for my actions. I fully accept that my behavior was wrong and that it brought shame on myself and the England national team.”
“To represent England is the greatest honor of all, which I take seriously and I am deeply sorry to have let my team-mates, coaches and supporters down.
“I thought about the lessons he taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those who represent your country.”
“I am determined to learn from this mistake and to rebuild trust through my future actions, both on and off the field. I apologize unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again.”
A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board said: “We are aware of this incident and it has been dealt with through the ECB’s formal and confidential disciplinary process.
“The player involved apologized and admitted that their behavior on this occasion fell short of expectations.”
