David Harbour has turned down a starring role in the new film Behemoth! weeks after missing an event tied to the series finale of strange things.
Searchlight Pictures confirmed to variety on Tuesday, January 6, that 50-year-old Harbor will stop playing the director Tony Gilroythe musical drama in which it was supposed to appear alongside Peter Pascal i Olivia Wilde. (TwoMe was the first to report news of Harbor’s departure on Tuesday.)
according to varietyciting multiple sources, Harbor stepped away from the film to take some time off to rest after being overwhelmed by the recent hype surrounding the last season of strange things. The fifth season premiered in three parts on Netflix between November and December 2025, with the final two-hour episode premiering on Wednesday, December 31.
The port Behemoth! role has already been recast, for varietyalthough the actor’s replacement is not yet known.

The port Behemoth! the departure comes just weeks after it was skipped Paley Center Stranger Things: The Final Season Celebration in New York City on December 18.
The actor was initially announced to appear alongside several of his cast mates on the red carpet, followed by a screening and conversation. However, the Paley Center confirmed it people on the day that Harbor “would not be present due to a scheduling conflict.”
Only 24 hours before the event, TMZ reported that Harbor was seen acting strangely at a bar in Encinitas, California, outside of San Diego. According to the outlet, Harbor grabbed a fellow patron’s hat at the bar and allegedly ran out of the venue with it, yelling at the fellow patron, “Come on, buddy, get me.”
The other customer followed Harbor and asked, “What the hell have I done to you?” before retrieving his hat, according to TMZ. A physical altercation between the two has not been reported.
Harbor has not publicly addressed the allegations and its representatives did not immediately respond we‘ request for comment at the time.
In October 2025, Harbour’s personal life became the subject of chatter on social media following his strange woman, Lily Allenreleased his new album, West End Girland hinted that the the actor cheated on her. (The couple split in late 2024 after four years of marriage.)
“I ain’t been no romance since we got married / ‘Why ain’t we fucking, baby?’ Yeah, that’s what you said / But you let me think it was me in my head / And nothing to do with these girls in your bed,” Allen sang on the track “Sleepwalking.”
In an October interview with british vogueAllen, 40, said: “There are things on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that doesn’t mean it’s all gospel. It’s inspired by what happened in the relationship.”
On the other hand, Harbor was coy about their split in an April 2025 interview with GQ Hype.
“I’m protective of people and the reality of my life. There’s no point in this way of engaging (with rumors) because it’s all based on hysterical hyperbole,” he said, adding that he didn’t want to encourage a “salty humiliation show.”
