The Scottish government has approved a request for legal aid for private prosecution of embarrassed football player David Goodwillie for rape.
The Civil Court ruled in 2017 years that he is goodwillie, who now plays west of Scotland League Bode Glasgow United, and former team-mate David Robertson raped Denise Clair, but not filed criminal charges against the park.
Ms. Clair is looking for rarely private prosecution, where an individual wants to prosecute, not the crown, but relies on the government’s financial assistance to progress.
After a long application, which was the first Minister John Svinney that lasted for too long, the ministers announced on Sunday that legal assistance was awarded.
Speaking with Week – who flagged the cause of Ms. Clair, “she said,” I’m caused after all these years, I can finally start the way to proper justice.
“I’ve been waiting all this time to test the facts about this case in the criminal tribunal.
“It’s disappointing that the Scottish government made me wait for the agonism an additional year for the decision they could do within 24 hours, agree on how exceptional this case.”
She added, “I’m determined to see this journey to the bitter end for me and any other victim of the rape that our criminal justice systems.”
The newspapers reported that funding was only £ 2,500.
The Scottish government spokesman said, “This was a particularly unique and complex case requesting in detail consideration.
“After careful ministers, the assessments decided to assign legal aid in this case.”
