Conor Benn is not backing down after his latest fight in the ring with Shakur Stevenson.
When Stevenson suggested a revised clause required for the two to meet, Benn simply replied: pay. This matchup is made even more difficult because Stevenson is talking about the world of boxing. He just finished beating Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden to win the WBO light welterweight title by unanimous decision.
If Benn comes out and fights without weight limits on fight night, he carries a huge physical edge. Beyond being the better man, Benn brings a level of aggression and power that Stevenson didn’t handle. Although Lopez looked confused at times, Benn was the type of fighter who would eat a punch just to deliver a devastating hook. That constant pressure can create a scary scenario for the New Jersey native.
Despite Stevenson’s misfortune, he has a safety net. Moving up to a new weight class provides an easy explanation for the loss, allowing him to retain his star power but saying he just bit off more than he could chew.
Benn took to social media to stop the heat, asking Stevenson to get ready for a date at Wembley. He made it clear that while he is willing to cut back down to 147 pounds for the first time in three years, any limited increase in his size will come with a heavy price.
Conor believes he has the tools to handle Shakur. The real issue is whether the fight can take place, given Stevenson’s demand for a redraft clause. Benn has made too much money in his last two fights to be directed.
“Shakur, Wembley is on lock. Get ready,” Conor Benn said above social media.
“You want a cleanup clause? You have to pay. I’m still going to beat your a**. My first fight down at 147 in three years and I’m still going to give it to you,” Benn said.
