US government workers faced massive confusion on Monday after conflicting advice about following an attack on Elon Musk at an end of the week or quitting face.
Just 48 hours after an email asking “What did you do last week?” Sent, the back office means the answers are voluntarily, leaving agencies to decide their way.
But because this new guide is shared with federal agencies, President Donald Trump has weighed that workers who did not obey Mr Musk’s demand can be fired or “semi-fired”.
And after Monday night, Mr. Musk strengthened the ultimatum, giving the workers a last chance to answer.
Mail from the personnel management office (OPM) on Saturday, taught recipients that respond to five examples of their past seven days, without revealing any classified information. Recipients are asked to respond at the end of Monday.
Mr Musk, leading the Department of Government of Government (Dogo), says failure to answer will be taken as a resignation.
Comments are targeted backlash, with federal unions and activists filing groups in a California case to stop the email command.
The key agencies, including defense departments, health and services, justice, and the FBI – led by Trump Cityineses – beginning to teach the directive. This is why widespread uncertainty, with some workers who have received contradictory messages at the end of the week.
The result is widespread implement, because federal workers face uncertainty in their work. Many also express confusion in competing guidance provided by their agencies.
“They succeed in driving us crazy,” an employee who works under HHS speaks BBC, and asked not to be sent for fear of retaliation.
On Monday afternoon, OPM made the leaders of human resources to federal agencies and said that each entity to know Saturday in the Directive, the partner of the Directive, the BBC companion.
Similarly afternoon, President Trump told the White House reporters that Mr Musk’s need was a step “genius” “
“There are many genius to send it,” he said. “We’re trying to figure out if people work and so we sent a letter to people, please tell us what you did last week. If they don’t have such a person or they don’t work.”
“And then if you don’t answer like a semi-fired or fired because many people don’t answer because they don’t say,” Trump said.
Mr. Musk continued he acted in the instructions from President Donald Trump.
“In accordance with the discretion of the President, they will be given another chance,” he wrote to X, which was obviously referring to workers who did not respond to his request at the end of Monday. “Failure to answer the second time results in graduation.”
“Email request is absolutely insignificant, as the pattern of passage passing is to type in a few words and continue to send!” He said to another post. “Yet many failed at least that test, some cases have been encouraged by their managers. Have you ever witnessed in disobedience and contempt then how was your taxes?”
