Tottenham captain Christian Romero appears to have slammed the club’s hierarchy for “lying” in a now edited social media post.

Monitoring 3-2 defeat by Bournemouth on Wednesdaywhich leaves Spurs 14th in the Premier League table, Romero took to Instagram in the early hours to post a cryptic message, which appeared to be aimed at those above him.

It said: “At times like this, other people should come forward and speak, but they don’t – as has been happening for several years now.”

“They only show up when things are going well, to tell a few lies.”

However, the post, supported by teammates Richarlison and Pedro Porro, has since been edited to remove the words “to tell a few lies”.

Romero’s full post now reads: “Apologies to all your fans who follow us everywhere, who are always there and always will be.

“We are responsible, there is no doubt about that. I am the first. But we will continue to face it and try to turn the situation around, for ourselves and for the club.

“At times like these, other people should come out and speak, but they don’t – as has been happening for several years. They only come forward when things are going well.”

“We will stay here, work, stick together and do our best to turn things around. Especially in moments like this, keeping quiet, working harder and moving forward together is part of football.”

“All together, it will be easier.”

Spurs players involved in fan disputes

Romero’s post came after centre-back partner Micky van de Ven, Poro and midfielder Joao Palinha were involved in post-match clashes with Spurs fans.

After a winless start to 2026, away fans on the south coast showed their displeasure at full-time after Antoine Semenha’s stoppage-time winner ended Bournemouth’s 11-game winless streak.

Van de Ven, Poro and Palinha had separate exchanges with the traveling support in a repeat of last season’s scenes at the Vitality Stadium, where former boss Ange Postecoglou suffered abuse from the away side.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank said it would be “absolutely stupid” to knowingly drink from an Arsenal-branded cup before the defeat by Bournemouth.

The Dane’s unfortunate gaffe sparked outrage among sections of Spurs’ disgruntled fan base after photos circulated on social media.

“I definitely didn’t notice it,” Frank said of the cup.

“I think it’s fair to say that we don’t win every game of football, so it would be absolutely, completely stupid of me to take the cup with the Arsenal (emblem) on it.”

“They were in the dressing room before us. It’s normal to get a cup, give me an espresso, I do that before every game, so I think it’s actually a bit sad in football that I should be asked about that.

“We’re definitely going in the wrong direction if we have to worry about me having a trophy with another club’s logo on it. Of course I would never do that. It’s absolutely stupid.”

The defeat left Tottenham with just two wins in their last 12 top-flight games.

“I think it’s fair to say it’s hard for everyone involved at Tottenham today,” Frank said.

“I hope everyone can see how hard we worked to get everything going in the right direction.”

“Overall, the game was good, especially the second half, in a game where we deserved to win more.”

“It’s extremely painful to be a part of, so of course people are frustrated – that’s natural.”

“It’s very difficult to sit here right now and we don’t have anything from an overall good performance.”
