Kendrick Lamar i SZA won the record of the year at Grammy 2026but it was a mistake by the presenter Cher which hilariously overshadowed the big moment.
When Cher opened the envelope during the ceremony on Sunday, February 1 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, she said that the deceased won the award. Luther Vandross.
Lamar, 38, and SZA, 36, actually won for their collaboration “Luther,” which features Vandross’ 1982 duet with Cheryl Lynn“If this world were mine.”
“No! Kendrick Lamar!” Cher could be heard saying as Lamar and SZA hesitantly began to make their way to the stage.
“This is what music is all about. Luther Vandross…” Lamar said during his speech, drawing laughter from the crowd. “This is special to me. I have to take my time. He’s one of my favorite artists of all time. We were given the privilege to do our version of him. When we got that clearance, I promise, we almost all shed a tear.”
