Chelsea Handler not a fan of com Timothée Chalamet handled his Martí Suprem press tour
“He seemed very serious about winning and being recognized for his great acting,” the comedian, 50, said of Chalamet, 30, during an appearance on the Tuesday, Jan. 14, episode of “Not skinny, but not fat” podcast
Before the premiere of Martí SupremChalamet was the owner of his controversial interviews talking about how his performance in the sports drama was the best in years.
“This is probably my best performance and it’s been seven or eight years that I feel like I’ve been delivering really, really committed top-notch performances. And it’s important to say that out loud,” he told a reporter in November 2025. “The discipline and the work ethic that I’m bringing to these things. I don’t want people to take that for granted. Top-notch shit.”
Handler added that while she thinks Chalamet is “a great actor,” his seemingly arrogant attitude skewed his message.
“It’s hard to hear someone talk about how great acting is,” he said.
Handler explained that ultimately, she’s rooting Leonardo DiCaprio win for his performance in the film One battle after anotherand adds that he has his vote for his talent and humble nature.
“Leo wouldn’t do that. Leo is a movie star. He wouldn’t talk like that,” she said. “That’s new. I’ve never heard an actor talk like that.”
Handler wasn’t the only one put off by Chalamet’s statements. The actor received backlash online for patting himself on the back before awards season even started.
“He’s doing a little… wait for people to see and like you before you tell them they should cheer for you 😭😭😭,” one fan wrote via X.
Following the backlash, Chalamet later addressed his earlier comments.
“This is in the spirit of Marty, and I feel like it’s finally an original movie at a time when original movies aren’t really being released,” he said of the press tour in a December 2025 interview with Indie thread. “It’s a movie about chasing a dream. I leave it in the field. Whether it’s the merchandise, the Zoom, or the media appearances, I’m trying to pull it off in the biggest way possible. In the spirit of Marty Mauser.”
Despite rubbing some people the wrong way, Chalamet took home Critics Choice and Golden Globe awards for his performance in Martí Suprem. During his acceptance speech at the Critics Choice Awards, which Handler hosted earlier this month, Chalamet thank you girlfriend Kylie Jenner for their support over the last three years.
“Thank you to my partner of three years. Thank you for our foundation. I love you,” he said. “I couldn’t do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Although the 2026 Oscar nominations have yet to be announced, Chalamet is one of the favorites to take home the Best Actor award after his recent wins.
