CBS I just renewed several shows — including several spin-offs — for Season 2.
The network announced on Wednesday, December 3 that Blue blood branch Boston Blue i Country of Fire spin-off Sheriff Country for the second installments.
“Two new Friday night shows have become instant hits with audiences quickly flocking to Boston Blue and Sheriff Country via streaming and over-the-air,” said the CBS Entertainment president. Amy Reisenbach shared in a statement Wednesday. “These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series truly stand out.”
According to a press release, Sheriff Country has averaged 7.6 million viewers and is “consistently a timeslot winner” on Friday nights at 8 p.m. Boston Bluefor its part, it has achieved 8 million viewers and has “won every Friday night in total viewers”.
Blue bloodwhich premiered in 2010, followed the lives of the Reagan family, many of whom worked for the NYPD under the leadership of New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). Frank and his father, Henry Reagan (Only for Caria), were central to the show, alongside Frank’s children: daughter Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and their sons Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).
After Blue Blood ended in 2024, CBS extended with Boston Blue, which follows the character of Danny as he makes the switch from working with the NYPD to helping the Boston PD In addition to Danny, Boston Blue presents we to his partner Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green).
Wahlberg has found ways to involve his Blue Bloods co-stars in the spin-off, with Marisa Ramirez resuming the role of Maria Baez several times.
“Viewers are saying, ‘How are we going to go forward with a Blue Bloods spin-off without the whole family?’ And I share it. How do we do it, right?” Wahlberg said Fox News Digital in June about how every other member of the Reagan family is a “phone call away.”
“Now, it’s just that Danny’s going into this new world, but I can’t say much about it, but I could say that if it’s a Reagan, it’s never going to be just Danny,” he shared at the time. “There will always be a Reagan just a phone call away.”
Wahlberg continued, “And the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny would not abandon those traditions.”
Country of Firemeanwhile, introduced the city of Edgewater when the show premiered in 2022 with the inmate Bode (Max Thieriot) returning home and volunteering for the California Conservation Camps program during Season 1 of the show’s hit. In Season 2, a backdoor pilot created the world of Sheriff Countrywhich centers around Sharon’s (Diane Farr) estranged sister, Mickey (Morena Baccarin) while solving crimes in the city.
Sheriff Country airs Fridays on CBS at 8:00 PM ET and Boston Blue airs at 10pm ET.
