Cameroon’s 92-year-old President Paul Biya was re-elected for an eighth term with 53.7 percent of the vote, the Constitutional Council announced. His main rival, Isa Chiroma Bakari, who claimed victory on his own score, condemned the result and said civilians were shot at outside his house. Protests erupted in several cities, with four people killed and more than 100 arrested, as authorities banned public gatherings and dismissed allegations of fraud.
