Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix still needs to be handled like a “dog on a leash” giving Josh Allen hope of extending the Buffalo Bills’ playoff streak, according to Phoebe Schecter.
The top-seeded Broncos host the Bills on Saturday, live on Ski Sports at 21:00in the round of the AFC division.
Many factors appear to be working in favor of the Broncos, who play at home after a bye week against a Bills team that battled to a 27-24 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend.
The one area where the Bills have a clear advantage is at quarterback, with 2024 MVP Allen a far more complete option than Knicks, who still needed careful management from Broncos head coach Sean Payton during his second NFL season.
Speaking of the latest episode Ski Sports’ Inside The Huddle podcast, former Bills assistant coach Schecter explained why she thinks the visiting team could triumph.
“This is going to be a big test,” Schecter said. “Coming into Denver, we’ve seen what it’s done to teams in the past. It’s so loud, you’re up high, it’s just going to be a hostile environment.
“But there are a few teams in the playoffs right now that have a defense and a quarterback that might not keep them alive.”
“Bo Nix has definitely improved as this season has gone on, but he still feels like a dog on a leash in the sense that he’s limited in what he can do, kind of manipulated in some ways to get certain looks.”
“And of course, that’s part of the game. Obviously, as a coordinator, as a quarterback, there are certain things you look for, but I think it’s more intense because some of the inaccuracies that come up, some of the specific play calls, the introductions — you’re almost finding ways to protect him more than you’d like to see from a few years in the league.”
The winner of the contest will face either the New England Patriots or the Houston Texans in the AFC Championship Game, with the second round taking place on Sunday night.
In the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks host the San Francisco 49ers later on Saturday night, before the Los Angeles Rams visit the Chicago Bears in a late game on Sunday.
