Bijou Phillips and his family are keeping their hopes up after his hospitalization for kidney disease.
A source explains it exclusively Us Weekly that although Phillips, 45, is “awake” and “aware of what’s going on,” his condition remains “serious.”
Phillips “started dialysis” on Tuesday, Feb. 10, the source added, noting that there is “natural wear and tear on the other kidney” and that he “has had problems for years.” (Phillips received his first kidney transplant in 2017.)
According to the insider, Phillips’ friends and family have “gone through the process” to see if they would be a match for a kidney donation, but were unsuccessful. While there are “no potential donors right now,” Phillips and her loved ones are “optimistic” about the chances of finding a match in the next “couple of months.”
Amidst her health struggles, she has been supported by her sisters Chyna i Mackenzie Phillips as well as friends nikki i Paris Hiltonaccording to the source.
Bijou took to Instagram on Wednesday, February 11 to share that she was in the hospital and needed a second kidney transplant.
“I’m asking as a friend, sister, aunt, and most importantly, a single mom to an amazing and brave daughter. I need a kidney,” Bijou wrote while adding that she “was born with underdeveloped kidneys and spent the first three months of her life in the NICU on dialysis.”
Bijou explained that a “dear friend” donated a kidney to her in 2017, but has since suffered complications.
“This transplant gave me eight precious years to be a mother to my daughter, but since then I have had many complications, including the BK virus which led to both cellular and antibody rejection,” she continued. “I am currently under the care of Dr. Anjay Rastogi at UCLA and am back on dialysis.”
