Bangladesh has approved the tour of its shooting team to New Delhi for next month’s Asian Shooting Championship for the Twenty20 World Cup after the cricket team refused to play in India over security concerns.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), citing independent security assessment reports, rejected Bangladesh’s demands to play their World Cup matches in Sri Lanka, instead arguing that the late schedule change was “not feasible”.
However, media reports in Bangladesh said that a three-member contingent comprising shooter Robiul Islam, his coach Sharmin Akhtar and jury member Saima Feroze has received approval from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to compete in New Delhi.
National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) general secretary Pawan Singh confirmed the participation of the Indian shooting team.
“Bangladesh’s participation was confirmed a month ago. Our applications for approval for all nations have been in process for almost three months,” Singh told Reuters news agency.
“We as a sport have to follow ISSF rules and IOC (International Olympic Committee) charter and as NRAI we have always had support from the government,” he said, referring to the International Shooting Sports Federation.
Singh added that the Bangladesh contingent did not request any additional security measures.
“Bangladesh team has been to our tournament many times, so they know our strict protocols very well. Maybe that’s why they are confident and have not made any special requests.”
The Asian Shooting Federation, which organizes the event, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Continental Rifle and Pistol Shooting Competition will be held in New Delhi from February 2 to 14.
