The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield he could only watch his team’s playoff hopes disappear on Sunday, January 4 and his wife, emilyhe shared these moments of tension with the world.
“Watching Baker watch football as a ‘fan’ is fun,” she wrote via her Instagram Count on Sunday “I haven’t seen him this stressed in a minute.”
On the next slide, he showed a video of Baker, 30, on the couch, his eyes fixed on the TV and his head resting on his hand.
Baker’s Buccaneers, who finished their season on Saturday, Jan. 3 with a win over the Carolina Panthers, found themselves in an unenviable position on Sunday, having to watch from home as other teams determined their playoff fate.
Tampa Bay needed the New Orleans Saints to beat the Atlanta Falcons to win the NFC South and clinch a playoff spot. Instead, the Falcons won a 19-17 thriller, forcing a three-way tie in the division between Tampa Bay, Atlanta and Carolina. Ultimately, the Panthers clinched the playoff bid because they had the better record against the other two teams.

Baker and Emily started coming out in 2017 and they got engaged just six months later. They got married in July 2019 and welcomed daughter Kova in April 2024.
“She truly is everything we prayed for and more,” Emily wrote via her Instagram story at the time.
The Buccaneers are the fourth NFL team Baker has played for in his eight years in the league. He began his career with the Cleveland Browns after being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick before making quick stops with the Panthers and Los Angeles Rams. He signed with Tampa Bay in March 2023 with the goal of success Tom Brady when the legendary quarterback retired.
Although Baker had a career year in 2024, leading the Buccaneers to the NFC South title and throwing 41 touchdown passes, he sparked controversy. comments he made about his predecessor.
“The building was a little different with Tom in there,” Baker said in a September 2024 appearance on the “Casa de Klub” podcast. “Obviously in terms of the game, Tom is different. He had everybody marked, a high-pressure environment, so I think everybody was pretty stressed. They wanted me to come in, to be myself, to bring some joy back to football for the guys who weren’t having as much fun. And just keep raising the level of competition … As a player, you can’t really ask for much more than that.”
Brady, 48, shot into the air while calling the Buccaneers’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles later that month.
“I thought the stress was not having Super Bowl rings,” he said. “There was a champion mentality that I brought to work every day. This wasn’t daycare. If I wanted to have fun, I’d go to Disneyland with my kids.”
Brady continued: “There’s one way to approach this game and that’s to have the right mindset and try to push each other out of our comfort zone.”
Baker is still looking for that first Super Bowl ring, a goal that will have to wait at least another year.
