A warrant has been issued for Gervonta Davis, the WBA lightweight champion, stemming from a domestic violence incident that authorities say occurred in October in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Miami Gardens Police confirmed Wednesday that the warrant includes charges of false imprisonment, battery and attempted kidnapping. In a department briefing, officials said they are working with federal partners to find and arrest Davis.
According to the police, on October 27, the incident occurred at the men’s club in Miami Gardens where the victim worked. Investigators say Davis entered the venue and later met the woman in the back of the club before having an encounter that spanned several parts of the building.
Police are alleging that Davis used coercive force to restrain the woman and tried to remove her from the area against her will. Authorities said the woman was eventually released and was later seen with an injury to her arm. Investigators said surveillance footage from the club was reviewed and supported key elements of the claim.
A civil lawsuit related to the incident was filed shortly after the alleged encounter. Police said the woman reported that she had been in an intimate relationship with Davis in early 2025 and that the relationship had ended about a month before the incident. He told investigators he blocked all communications after the breakup.
The law enforcement officials said that the findings of their investigation are enough for the government attorneys to seek court approval for a warrant, which was issued this week. Miami Gardens police emphasized that allegations of domestic violence are serious crimes and are prosecuted accordingly.
The timing of the complaint and investigation coincided with Davis’ withdrawal from a scheduled December fight in Miami. That event moved forward with a different title after Davis withdrew.
Davis has faced a number of legal issues in recent years, including previous domestic violence charges and an accident in Baltimore that resulted in house arrest and probation. Authorities did not say whether the current warrant placed him in violation of the terms of his probation.
For now, the situation has left one of boxing’s most famous champions in a normal situation, facing legal consequences that once again threaten to overshadow his career in the ring.
