We’re about to get our first real look at the results of the recently announced AI partnership between Apple and Googleaccording to Mark Gurman Bloomberg.
Gurman reports that Apple plans to announce a new version of Siri in the second half of February. Using Google’s Gemini AI model, this Siri update will be the first to go live Apple’s promise is made in June 2024with the ability to complete tasks by accessing the user’s personal data and content on the screen.
And first the bigger upgrade that Apple plans to announce in June, at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Gurman said. This version of Siri is supposed to be more conversational, in the style of other chatbots like ChatGPT, and can run directly on Google’s cloud infrastructure.
Previous reports have suggested that Apple has struggled to get its AI strategy back on track. In fact, Gurman said Apple’s Mike Rockwell told members of the foundation’s team over the summer that one of Gurman’s previous reports was “bull-t.” But with Google’s partnership, too the recent departure of Apple’s AI chief John Giannandreait seems the company has found a new direction.
