Amazon is beefing up its Ring smart doorbell with new features, including new fire alerts, an app store, and a new set of Ring Sensors.
The company says the new Sensor Ring can detect movement, openings, broken glass, and smoke, and can also monitor carbon monoxide levels, leaks, temperature changes, and air quality. They also allow you to control lights and appliances connected to your smart home network.
Amazon also added a new app store to the Ring app so users can use the camera with third-party apps. The store is currently only available in the US, and users will be able to browse through a selection of apps in the coming weeks. While the company didn’t specify what types of apps will be featured in stores, it said the apps will focus on small business operations and everyday needs at home.
And as wildfires grow more common in areas affected by drought, companies have cooperated fire monitoring application, Watch Dutyto show real-time updates and early warnings in the Neighbors section of the Ring app. Users can also share live updates using the Ring camera to this section.
In particular, the new device launched supports the Amazon Sidewalk connection network feature, which creates a mesh network between the company’s Echo and Ring devices by sharing a small part of your bandwidth, so that the device can be used even if it is not in the wireless range of your Wi-Fi router.
Amazon is also adding a new AI-based feature to the Ring camera that learns daily patterns from properties and alerts users when something out of the ordinary happens. Dubbed “AI Unusual Event Alerts,” the company says the feature allows the Ring camera to display custom warnings when it detects people, based on their location, actions and clothing.
For people who subscribe to Amazon’s Virtual Security Guard service, the warning can trigger automatic intervention. In the last month, the company has rolled out a feature that uses video recognition to trigger an Alexa response and send you personalized notifications based on a database of 50 faces.
