Alexander and Stellan Skarsgard lose to Wunmi Mosaku at the 2025 Gotham Awards


Alexander Skarsgård confronted his father, Stellan Skarsgårdat the 2025 Gotham Awards, but did one of them take home the win?

Both Alexander, 49, and Stellan, 74, lost out in the Outstanding Supporting Performance category at the ceremony on Monday, December 1, with the award for sinners actress Wunmi Mosaku. While Mosaku, 39, was not present to accept the recognition, sinners director Ryan Coogler accepted the award on his behalf.

“I’m clearly not Wunmi Mosaku. She’s somewhere doing what she does best, working,” Coogler, 39, told the audience during the show, which was held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. “I’m sure he deeply regrets not being here to accept this outstanding award. So I will accept it on his behalf.”

Alexander was nominated for his role as Ray on A24’s pillionwhile Stellan was recognized for his performance in Neon’s sentimental value like Gustav Borg. Other category nominees included Benicio del Toro i Teyana Taylor in One battle after another, Jacob Elordi in Frankenstein, India Moore in Father Mother Sister Brother, Adam Sandler in Jay Kelly, Andrew Scott in Blue Moon and Stellan’s sentimental value cost, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.

This is not the first time that Alexander and Stellan have faced each other at an awards show. Both were nominated for their work Succession i Andorrespectively, at the 2023 Emmys in the category of best supporting actor in a drama. (The succession Matthew Macfadyen he finally won.)

Gotham Awards are annually held by the Gotham Film and Media Institute, recognizing artists in gender-neutral categories since 2021 to celebrate independent cinema. Nominees are selected by a committee of critics, journalists, festival programmers and film curators. Separate juries of writers, directors, actors and producers then determined the final award winners.

Another Battle leads the pack this year with a total of six nominations. In addition to Del Toro and Taylor’s Best Supporting Actor awards, the film is nominated for Best Feature Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. Paul Thomas Anderson is nominated as best director, while Chase Infiniti is nominated in the Breakthrough Performer category.

The ceremony will also pay special tribute to the director Noah Baumbach for his work Jay Kellywhile Tessa Thompson will be honored with the Spotlight Tribute for Hedda i Frankenstein will receive the Gotham Vanguard Tribute. The cast of Sinners will receive the Ensemble Tribute and Luca Guadagnino i Julia Roberts will be honored with the Visionary Tribute by After the Hunt.
