Adam Sandler he thinks he and his wife, Jackie Sandlerthey always had to be.
As Adam, 59, attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival gala on Saturday, January 3, he talked about what his life would have been like if he had worked for his father as an electrical engineer, instead of becoming an actor. (At the event, Adam accepted the President’s Award while being recognized by his work in Jay Kelly.)
“Sometimes I think, (if) I hadn’t clicked that year and gone to work for my dad, what would my life be like right now,” Adam said in his speech, per people. “First of all, I’m thinking I’d probably still be married to my wife, Jackie. That’s destiny. Nothing stops it.”
“But we’d definitely (have) a different house. Probably, like, 10 less bathrooms and (less) statues of me,” he joked.
Adam and Jackie met on the set in 1999 Great Popedating shortly after. He popped the question in 2002.
“I played basketball that afternoon, trying to calm down, and then I was driving. I was saying things out loud and trying to, you know, make sure I hit all the right things so she would remember good things, and I did well,” he said in a June 2002 appearance on Good morning America at that time. “He called his grandmother right after and his mother, and they all said, ‘Yeah, I heard the applause over the phone.'”
Adam and Jackie married in 2003. The couple continued to welcome daughters Sadie and Sunny in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
More than two decades into his marriage to Jackie, Adam reflected close bond of the couple.
“We are very close. We like to talk and laugh and have fun and think about things and take care of our kids,” Adam said. people in November 2025. “I’m more grateful than ever.”
He continued: “Happy to have had this life, happy (for) all the people who have been with me through all of this and helped me, and (it) has been a phenomenal time. My whole family has always been great to me. My wife and I talk about things, what to do and what to do next, and it’s been a really cool life.”
Later that year, Adam admitted that he says “so many things” about his wife and children that “aren’t true” and knows how to make up for them.
“I make up some shit and make it silly, so at the end of the show, I like to remind the audience that none of this is true and I love my wife,” Adam explained to Netflix. Adam continued to serenade his wife during a stand-up routine at the end of the special.
“Now we don’t need a big house, we don’t need no money, we just need you and me, Sadie and Sunny,” she sang. “I have everything I need to grow old with you.”
