A 13-year-old boy, Austin Appelby, rescued his mother and two younger siblings after they were swept into the sea off the coast of Australia. Austin swam about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) to shore to raise the alarm. The family from Perth were on holiday using kayaks and paddle boards when rough conditions swept them out to sea. Austin swam for four hours, focusing on positive thoughts, and collapsed when he reached shore.
